Outreach and Office Support Volunteer

The Big Issue Company Ltd produces a publication that is sold on the streets by people who are homeless or insecurely housed which provides them with the means to earn a living and regain control over their lives. You can help vulnerably housed and homeless people earn an income and escape homelessness by volunteering at The Big Issue.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist our staff and vendors in the West Midlands Region, particularly in our Nottingham and Derby offices however you will also provide ‘On-street-sales support’ in the East Midlands area. You will be reporting back to the office staff, assisting on the counter, monitoring sales pitches and ultimately helping our Big Issue vendors to maximize their sales. You may also be involved in referring our vendors to appropriate in-house support services and liaising with other homeless agencies and partner organisations.
You must be a reliable and flexible person who can turn their hand to any task required. You must be patient, have a sense of humor and the ability to cope with challenging situations is crucial.

An understanding of the practical and emotional needs of homeless people along with a commitment to the social objectives of The Big Issue is essential.
